The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is currently executing its sewage management system, involving pipeline laying works across nine wards at an estimated cost of Rs. 218 crore. This strategic move aims to connect household septic tanks to sewer lines, ultimately optimizing wastewater management in the city. To facilitate the project, RMC has issued a tender valued at Rs. 4.60 crore
The allocated funds will contribute to the construction of inspection chambers, ensuring the direct flow of household wastewater into the three sewage treatment plants located in Lam Basti and Badagain. The initiative seeks to streamline wastewater management and significantly improve Ranchi's sanitation infrastructure
Despite the positive intentions behind the project, challenges are anticipated, particularly for approximately 40,000 houses in the affected wards. The connection process may require adjustments to existing structures, raising concerns among residents. In cases where septic tanks were constructed due to the absence of pipelines during initial construction, there is a potential need for house demolitions to facilitate seamless integration
a resident of Hinoo, expressed his concerns, stating, "We are living in constant uncertainty, and our homes may face the looming threat of demolition." Ameet Kumar, the administrator of RMC, responded, saying, "Houses with approved maps and adequate side setbacks would face minimal complications." RMC has set a deadline of 9 months for households to link their sewer pipelines to the inspection chambers, emphasizing the importance of community participation in the successful execution of this sanitation infrastructure enhancement initiative
